Mary Bue

I've known Mary for a long long time. I know her as a musician (she plays at Mother Fool's) but she also is a yoga teacher and all around wonderful person. A person worth knowing!

The first time I remember taking a picture of her was at Beaner's in Duluth. Probably in the nineties... Since then I've taken literally thousands of photos of her. This collection is from summer 2014 and early 2015. Madison, Minneapolis and Duluth. Some for fun, some for publicity shots.

Odds and Ends

Here are some faves that I've been wanting to share. Most are from this year but a couple are older.

It was a good first year as a photographer. I learned tons and had a lot of opportunities to really develop my skills. Huge thanks to everyone who let me take their picture this year and to all the teachers in my life - often one and the same.

Wishing everyone a wonderful 2015!

Epic Family Shoot

Another great family shoot! This included a new challenge for me. Dogs. I've taken lots of pictures of dogs over time. Mainly family dogs - Snitzel and Isis. But I never attempted to include a dog in a family portrait! Until now.

So the family is two adult sisters, their mom and dad and the two dogs. The girlfriend of one of the sisters came along to help with the dogs. (It's good she did because we ended up doing some really nice shots of the two of them - in addition to being a much-needed dog-wrangler.)

Slam Up Tour

A few months back, Slam Up Tour played at Mother Fools. While setting up for their show they were bemoaning their lack of good publicity shots. So of course I offered to do a photo shoot with them the following day.

We met up at my house and walked to Tenney Park. They (Cali Bulmash and Emily Lowinger) both have separate, solo careers, in addition to the duo so the idea was to take group and solo shots as we went.

My First Show

I'm pretty excited about my upcoming show at Mother Fool's.

It's basically portraits. Some cats, some candids, some landscapes... But mainly portraits of people. Most of the show will be printed on white aluminum with a glossy finish. It has been difficult to decide what to include and in what sizes. But, I finally did make decisions and placed the order yesterday.

Stop by and take a look. It'll be up from May 28 - June 30. Mother Fool's is at 1101 Williamson St., Madison.

There will be a reception on Sunday, June 29 from 6 - 8 pm.

Physical Therapy Website Shoot

My massage therapist, Susan Frikken of Yahara Therapy, asked me to help her with photos for her new website.

The shoot took place at two locations on two different days.

The first session was at Ford's Gym with Jill as our model. Susan directed her through a series of physical therapy exercises as I photographed the action. The sunlight was really lovely coming though windows set high in the walls. With all the mirrors of the gym reflecting sunlight plus the interior lighting I had no trouble getting good exposure. The gym has nice blue mats which added a nice touch.
