I recently went on a solo camping trip to Badlands National Park in South Dakota. I took my camera with the intention of working on my landscape photography skills but, to my surprise, I ended up taking quite a few portraits. There were bison and prairie dogs all over the park, especially in the area near the free, Sage Creek Campground.

Ballroom Basics for Balance is a class designed for seniors to maintain and improve their balance. Physical therapy students from the UW volunteer and it is usually about an equal number of students and seniors. The class runs for 8 or 10 weeks, meeting once per week. I come in to photograph on the last session after they've learned all of the dances. Everyone dresses up and has a good time.

I had the opportunity to work on a music video for Ladyscissors with band member and directer, Stephanie Rearick.

She had a very specific vision and had storyboarded all the shots so we ended up doing two sessions of still shots of potatoes and stop action shots of Mr. Potatohead characters. We also did one video shoot with the whole band. To prepare for the still… [ more ]

I was hired to photograph the 4th Annual Spring Tech Kickoff at the brand new Galaxie building on East Washington Ave. (So new that you can see the unfinished drywall in some of the photos.)

It was a social gathering of technology business, entrepreneurs, and startup movers and shakers. There were about 350 people there mingling with DJs and lots of food and drink from local restaurants and brewers. The… [ more ]

I've known Mary for a long long time. I know her as a musician (she plays at Mother Fool's) but she also is a yoga teacher and all around wonderful person. A person worth knowing!

So this was cool... My friend Kristin got pregnant last year and let me take lots of photos throughout the summer and fall. We walked a similar route each time and it was really great to see the seasons and flowers change as her body grew and changed. We did some funny shots but mostly we went for a classic, beautiful look.

Here are some faves that I've been wanting to share. Most are from this year but a couple are older.

It was a good first year as a photographer. I learned tons and had a lot of opportunities to really develop my skills. Huge thanks to everyone who let me take their picture this year and to all the teachers in my life - often one and the same.
